Henrietta loves exploring the woods and pond with Gramma and Grampa. But her grandparents’ cottage has no electricity or running water, and this will be her first time staying overnight. Can she make it through the scary, dark night and finally see the great blue heron that visits in the morning?

Alice Whitney holds a BFA from Cornell University and taught art at Sussex Regional High School for 14 years. She has always had a strong affinity for nature, as well as art, and many New Brunswick plants and animals have found their way into Henrietta’s Nightlight. An earlier version of the story won an award in the Atlantic Writing Competition. She and her husband, Lee, now live in Fredericton.
